Curriculum Education Officer

This position covers the full range of schooling, from Pre-school / Prep to Year 12 and provides support to the Schools Development Officers (SDOs) and schools in core curriculum areas such as the roll out of new syllabi in Maths and English. Under the leadership of the SDOs, the Curriculum Education Officer works with schools to coordinate the on-going development of the diocesan Learning Framework. The position has responsibility for working on implementation of the assessment and reporting results of the Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting framework (QCAR) with respect to reporting student progress and responding to school needs for this to be outcomes based and student focused. The position is also responsible for coordination of curriculum in-services and helping to prepare responses to government policy consultations. This is a hands-on, operational role that necessitates a keen interest in curriculum and actively following the developments occurring at state and commonwealth level.

Preparatory Education Officer

With the Preparatory Year of schooling being introduced and pre-school discontinued in 2007, the Preparatory Education Officer is dedicated to the smooth implementation of this transition. The Preparatory Education Officer liaises with schools; with one of the most important responsibilities being to oversee the professional development of our early childhood teachers, especially those who will take Prep classes in 2007 and 2008, and those who will take Year 1 classes in 2008. The Preparatory Education Officer represents CES at the Queensland Catholic Education Commission (QCEC) on the Prep Implementation Committee, and assists schools with equipment / resource acquisition, programme development, and parent education about Prep.

Secondary Education Curriculum Officer

This position assists the Secondary SDO to support our secondary colleges through the major changes to senior secondary education driven by the former state Minister for Education and the current federal Minister. Our secondary schools are undergoing a period of very rapid change in almost every area of their operation: changes to the senior phase of learning; the new Queensland Certificate of Education will be offered for 2008; tracking of retention rates from Years 8 to 12 and of what students are doing in the senior years; the state government's publishing of Year 12 results which show OP results and the number of students obtaining Vocational Education Training (VET) qualifications annually; The conducting of destination surveys to see where graduates of secondary schools move on to and publification of this information. There are also the on-going developments in the VET sector, as well as continuing pressures to align senior school curriculum offerings with university entrance expectations, including the increasing possibility of secondary school students embarking on university studies while still at school.

Social and Emotional Learning Education Officer

Contemporary and renewed interest in the academic, personal, social and moral aspects of schooling globally, nationally and at state and local levels, has challenged us to be more explicit in our approach to addressing the expectations that society puts on schools to turn out individuals who are able to thrive in global, cultural, economic and environmental orders. In rising to this challenge, Catholic Education Cairns, informed by thorough research, has embraced the capacity of well-implemented Social and Emotional Learning to impact markedly on the whole range of desired student outcomes. It is the role of the Social and Emotional Learning Education Officer to collaborate with and support the Curriculum Team in meeting its overall goals. This role involves empowering school communities to explicitly nurture young peoples’ capabilities and potential by  strengthening staff and parent effectiveness in leading young people to master the key SEL competencies at home, work and play. Visit Social Emotional Learning
