Catholic Education Services (CES) supports schools in our diocese as they strive to enhance the learning experiences of our students with the use of existing and emerging learning technologies. Our vision for students is that they will become confident, creative, responsible users of technology, able to select appropriately the tools and skills they need to be active participants in the global community.
Where are we going with Learning Technology?
Learning Technology refers to the use of technology for the enrichment of teaching and learning. It encompasses the use of digital resources including computers, software, still and video cameras, computer networks, the internet, online communities.
Learning technologies are one of the most powerful of all educational resources. Technologies create many options and opportunities for learners, and facilitate:
- diverse, engaging approaches to teaching and learning
- access to an ever-increasing range of interactive digital learning resources
- interaction with a global online community
Opportunities to use technologies in learning experiences encourages:
student-centered learning
- active, exploratory, inquiry-based learning
- collaborative work
- creativity, critical thinking and informed decision-making
- involvement in authentic and real-life tasks
Objectives for Learning Technology in the diocese include:
- students with the skills, knowledge and understanding to use learning technologies confidently and creatively to contribute to their life-long learning in a knowledge-based society
- teachers who embed the use of learning technologies in their teaching and learning
practice
- educational leaders who create a vision for using learning technologies for teaching and learning, model best practice, and encourage staff to explore innovative practice in learning technologies use
- digital learning environments that enable students and teachers to access quality resources, information and subject matter from around the world, from anywhere at anytime
- developing links between schools and parents/carers, families and the wider community
- ensuring secure, equitable access to consistent and efficient learning technologies environments across diocesan schools.
