 Catholic Education in the Cairns Diocese has more than 1500 teachers, school officers and support staff. The Executive Director of Catholic Education is the delegated employer of all staff in all schools in the Diocese of Cairns.
Acting on behalf of the Bishop of Cairns as the Trustee of the Roman Catholic Trust Corporation, the Human Resources section supports the Executive Director and schools in all employment-related matters.
Human Resources Section
The Human Resources Section operates under the direction of the Executive Director and in consultation with the Assistants to Executive Director School Development for Catholic Education Services in the Diocese of Cairns. The section facilitates a broad range of contemporary Human Resource activities that include:
- Recruitment and selection

- Remuneration and benefit coordination
- Wage and salary administration
- Records management
- Professional Development
- Workforce planning and policy development
- Industrial relations and legislation compliancy
- Processing of core entitlement documentation, including leave entitlements

Registration - Information for teachers
Anyone who wishes to teach in Queensland schools must be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers. Standards which must be met relate to qualifications and to good character. To satisfy the requirements of the Education (Teacher Registration) Act 1988, criminal record checks are conducted on all applicants prior to admission to the Register.
Please note:
- All Principals and Teachers are appointed by the Executive Director of Catholic Education Services.
- Secondary Colleges recruit and select their own teaching staff. Applications for these positions should be made directly to the college.
- Primary Teachers are appointed through the Catholic Education Services office.
- All other positions in Catholic schools are appointed by the school Principal who is delegated this authority.
