In the Cairns Diocese Sacramental preparation is a Parish-based, family-centred process which is supported by the Catholic School in Religious Education classes and by Catechists in the State School system.

In most cases children attending a Catholic Primary school are prepared for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in Year 3 and Confirmation in Year 6 or 7.   For students in other circumstances, arrangements can be made with the Parish Priest regarding appropriate formation and timing for the reception of these Sacraments.
