About our School

Families wanting a quality Catholic secondary education for their child are invited to consider this new and exciting educational community being developed on 28 hectares on the outskirts of beautiful Mareeba. It is a rare and exciting opportunity to be a part of a new and growing College which has been a hope and dream for families for so many years.  St Stephen’s Catholic College is administered by the Catholic Diocese of Cairns and will provide a quality Catholic education for the students of the Northern Tablelands Region.

St Stephen’s  focuses on providing opportunities for young men and women to achieve to their best and the College will provide a holistic curriculum so students have every opportunity to grow academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually and physically.  The staff of St Stephen’s view our young people as life-long learners who will be given every opportunity to realise their giftedness and utilise this by being a presence of Christ in our world.

Student Achievement – The distance travelled

Classroom teachers and the College administration monitor student achievements through-out the year and where necessary support strategies are implemented.  The College is working towards an Curriculum Plan which includes a comprehensive: literacy; numeracy and learning support where required. Such programs will cater for the needs of students and provide flexible pathways. During 2008 the students have performed above average in a national literacy competition.

Student Achievement – Where are we going?

The Senior School will expand with Year 12 in 2010. Purpose-built facilities are currently being planned as we endeavour to cater for the needs of students. The successful Middle School curriculum will form the foundation of learning in the Senior School. A high priority will be given to to integrating technologies into all aspects of curriculum.
